Vinland Saga Season 2 Review: The Bravest Sequel in Modern Anime
A revenge story that removes the revenge and gets better for it. 9.2/10.
Verdict: 9.2 out of 10. Season two takes an audience that arrived for Viking battles and hands them a farm, a debt and a man who has stopped wanting anything.
That is an extraordinary risk, and it pays off because the show never treats pacifism as an easy answer. Thorfinn's refusal to fight costs him constantly, and the series makes you feel each cost before it grants any relief.
Einar is the season's structural masterstroke: an audience surrogate whose anger is legitimate, placed beside a protagonist who has renounced his own. Their friendship carries twenty-four episodes with barely a sword drawn.
The production is quieter than season one and better composed. It is the rare sequel that changes genre without losing identity, and it should be studied by anyone adapting long-form seinen.
