Chainsaw Man
A boy, a devil dog, and a normal life he can't afford.
Overview
Denji lives in a shack, eats bread with jam if he's lucky, and hunts devils to pay off his dead father's yakuza debt. He is fused with his pet devil Pochita and becomes Chainsaw Man — a public safety asset with a very small wishlist and a very big weapon.
Every arc, explained
Public Safety Introduction
Episodes S1 Part 1Denji joins Makima's division and the show establishes its very particular tone.
Katana Man
Episodes S1 Part 2Yakuza revenge, Reze's arrival, and the escalation into the manga's most beloved run.
Devils manifest from human fears. Named devils are older and stronger. Contracts trade parts of the human body for a devil's power. Fiends are devils in dead human bodies. Hybrids like Denji sit above all of them.
An alternate 1990s Japan where the Cold War never fully ended and Public Safety hires devil hunters as expendable civil servants. The show's aesthetic is intentionally grimy, cinematic, and film-referential.
