The Animator Shortage Is Getting Worse: What Studios Are Doing About It

Demand for new series has grown faster than the pipeline of trained key animators, and the gap is now visible in schedules: delayed premieres, mid-season breaks, and outsourcing to studios with no capacity to absorb it.

Several major studios have responded with in-house training programmes and salaried junior positions replacing the traditional per-cut piece rate. Early data suggests retention improves sharply when a first-year animator can pay rent.
