The 15 Best Action Anime of the Decade, Ranked and Argued

Every ranking is an argument. Ours weighs three things equally: choreography that reads clearly on a first watch, stakes that survive the fight ending, and rewatch value once you already know who wins. A show that only scores on the first is a highlight reel, not a great action series.

Attack on Titan takes the top slot because it is the rare action anime where the tactics matter as much as the animation. The gear is a system with rules, the enemy is a puzzle with a solution, and the losses are permanent. Jujutsu Kaisen follows for the opposite reason: MAPPA's directors treat every fight as a character study conducted at speed.

Further down, Mob Psycho 100 earns its placement on the strength of a protagonist who spends the entire series trying not to fight, which makes each explosion of power a narrative event rather than a weekly obligation. Chainsaw Man scores on texture — the grime, the wet sound design, the sense that violence costs something.
