How to Avoid Spoilers Online Without Leaving the Internet
Filters, feed hygiene, browser tools and the community norms that actually help.
Muting works better than blocking. Most spoiler exposure comes from quote-posts and thumbnails, not from people you follow, so mute character names, arc names and the show's abbreviation for the duration of your catch-up.
Thumbnail suppression is the single highest-value change. Extensions that hide video thumbnails until hover remove the majority of accidental reveals, because the spoiler is usually in the image rather than the title.
Community norms matter more than tools. Tag your posts, use spoiler formatting for anything past the current broadcast episode, and give simulcast regions a full day before discussing openly.
On our own pages, every plot-critical reveal sits behind an accessible spoiler gate you have to open deliberately. That is a promise, not a feature.
