How to Build an Anime Backlog System You Will Actually Use
Tracking, triage, the three-episode rule and permission to drop things.
A backlog fails when it becomes a debt ledger. The fix is triage: three buckets — watching, next up, someday — with a hard cap of five titles in 'next up'. Everything else goes to 'someday' and stays there guilt-free.
The three-episode rule is good but incomplete. Give a series three episodes, then ask one question: is the thing it is doing well the thing I want more of? If the answer is no, drop it, because episode four will not change the answer.
Track with whatever you will actually open. A tracker you check weekly beats a beautiful spreadsheet you abandon in March.
Finally, schedule long series deliberately. A thousand-episode commitment works when it is your one ongoing background show, and fails when it competes with three seasonals.
